The Grandmother by Theresa Eileen Council Longley

The Grandmother:

You could see your Grandmother at a distance and you would know it to be her;

She would be in the fields, pulling weeds, stuffing them in old dog food bags.

You could see her old straw hat and her red checked shirt and her old outside shoes that she kept stored on a bush outside her door

You would smile as you drove down the driveway, seeing that small figure of a women.

Do not for an instant let that size fool you, she was sharp as a tack and could size you in in a nano second.

Her hand would come to her Forehead to block out the sun looking to see who it was, “Be there in a Second” you would hear in her clear tiny voice.

Always happy to see you, her eyes would shine. You are her grandchildren, no one in her life more important. To you she gave her wisdom, her patience, her adventurous spirit and her love for life.

Because she gave these things to you, she is part of you for all times

She is resting now, so well deserved. Cherish what she gave you, hold it to your heart. No one could hold that title “Grandmother” higher than your grandmother. I love you Paula
